In this episode of the Bitcoin Brief, Q and I catch up on a packed run of developments across Bitcoin, privacy and open source. We start with the launch of freedom.tech, our new AI-powered news desk for tracking hundreds of FreedomTech projects, and touch on the latest Passport Prime firmware release before getting into the bigger stories. We cover India’s attempted takedown of Jack Dorsey’s BitChat repositories and why attacks on decentralised, censorship-resistant tools are likely to intensify, then move to a worrying US border case involving a GrapheneOS duress PIN and what it means for travellers’ privacy rights. We also dig into the latest delay to the Clarity Act, a strange new US ‘Freedom Tech Excellence Program’ involving some very familiar surveillance-adjacent names, and Block’s new open-source collaboration tool, Buzz, which looks like a compelling way to combine team chat with AI agents and Nostr-based infrastructure.
Later, we check in on BIP 110 and the increasingly unlikely path to activation, with signalling still far below the required threshold and the prospect of a messy split looking more real by the day. We finish with a rapid-fire roundup of notable releases, including Nunchuk adding Liquid Tether support, Lightning Labs unveiling Wavelength for non-custodial agentic payments, StartOS 0.4 reaching main release, updates from BlueWallet and Cake Wallet, and quality-of-life improvements in Ashigaru. As always, the focus is on what actually matters: tools that help people stay sovereign, private and better informed.
